As part of my plan to engage as many people as possible in the discussion of the ways and means to improve our healthcare system, I will hold my next town hall meeting on Friday, September 4 at 7:00PM at Drexel Hill Baptist Church (4400 State Road, Drexel Hill, PA).
Due to high demand and limited space, I am requiring all participants to web RSVP as soon as possible. I will do my best to accommodate everyone who wants to attend. Unfortunately, for safety purposes, I cannot guarantee admittance to everyone who shows up; however, I will follow this event with telephone town halls on Sept 13-15 during which I will continue the discussion of this very important issue with constituents throughout the 7th Congressional District.

As the result of our Nation’s extraordinary economic recession, I have seen families throughout the 7th Congressional District struggle across three generations to cope with historically high unemployment, record foreclosure rates, loss of pension plans, devalued homes, rising costs of education, expensive health care, and the ever-present threat of increased energy prices. Although I am aggressively working with my colleagues in Congress to address these issues legislatively, and through my constituent office to engage the unique problems of individuals, I believe more must be done. To that end, I am committed to networking the many organizations in our region that are chartered to help citizens weather difficult times and I am pleased to invite you to the first gathering of those remarkable organizations at the 7th Congressional District Working Families Resources Summit on August 1, 2009.
This Summit will feature a brief panel discussion and question and answer session followed by a service fair that connects community members with government agencies, non-government organizations, and local resources. Service fair exhibitors will cover a variety of issues including housing relief, employment, adult education, credit counseling, legal issues, elder and child care, health services, Veterans benefits, and more. I am hopeful that this summit will give families full access to all available aid and assistance as well as the opportunity and resources to fight through this recession and plan for a secure future.

The Veterans History Project collects, preserves, and makes accessible the personal accounts of American war veterans so that future generations may hear directly from veterans and better understand the realities of war. These collections of first-hand accounts are archived in the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress for use by researchers and to serve as an inspiration for generations to come. VHP relies on volunteers throughout the nation to collect veterans’ stories on behalf of the Library of Congress.” Congressman Sestak supports this initiative and is hosting a workshop in Delaware County which will be led by a professional oral historian trained by the Library of Congress. The workshop is intended to teach how to better conduct a more effective and fluid interview of a veteran. The event will be held at Radnor High School on Tuesday July 7th from 6:30 to 9:00 pm. Hope to see you there!
